Jorge writes his impressions from East Timor: "There are no words that can summarize the experience I’ve had so far in this country, where people are so poor but very rich in heart. Many families in this province truly live in dramatic conditions. There is hunger and basic health services are not assured for all...
Presently, we are also working on projects for the community. We assure daily meals are given to two women who live in precarious conditions and just last month we rebuilt both their homes to endure the seasonal rainfall.
At school we are currently preparing for Christmas; we are decorating, filling the home with the essence of Christmas and looking forward to the birth of Jesus, who is about to be born in the hearts of all of us.
Classes only begin in January and all the children have not arrived yet, until then we usually spend time practicing Portuguese, singing and learning how to use the computer…
Now, I say good bye with a hug that is the size of all the happiness I feel for being where I am and fulfilling my dream.
I promise to send pictures before Christmas.
Thank you sister,
Jorge Mestre
